Human tissue donated at the time of surgery or death by people of all ages, especially those afflicted with a genetic disorder, is the most precious resource on which researchers depend. By examining tissue, comparing the unaffected with the affected, or by comparing different age groups, sexes, etc., scientists can begin to unravel endless questions. And as answers unfold, so will deeper understanding, offering hope to the lives of us all.
If you are planning to have any type of surgery and are interested in donating the tissue for research , please contact the Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance at (800) 225-6872 or send an e-mail to info@tsalliance.org or go to the University of Maryland (Baltimore) Brain and Tissue Bank for Developmental Disorders website for more information.
If it is an emergency surgery, you may also contact the TS Alliance at 240-381-3509. Individuals with TSC and their families may also "pre-register" with the Brain and Tissue Bank so that all of the informed consent forms are in place if and when there is either a planned or emergency surgery and/or the death of an individual with TSC.
