TS ALLIANCE STRATEGIC PLAN

Mission:  To find a cure for tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC), while improving the lives of those affected.

Vision:  To bring about a day when no one has to endure the devastating effects of TSC.

Goal 1: Accelerate research

We will accelerate the progress in TSC research through federal funding, a database, TS Alliance-funded research, collaborations and a clinical network.

1. Federal Funding: Increase federal funding of research from diverse sources through advocacy to an annual minimum of $50 million by 2012.
2. Database: Support the TS Alliance’s Natural History Database to improve access to clinical research data and promote increased interest in TSC research.
3. TS Alliance-Funded Research: Ensure optimal investment of TS Alliance research funds, while expanding scope and depth of TS Alliance research program.  
4. Collaborations: Be the major convener and catalyst for collaborations with investigators in industry, academia, government and other organizations to promote basic and applied TSC research. 
5. Clinical Network:  Develop infrastructure, strengthen and formalize TSC Clinics nationwide into a clinical network that will support new therapies and critical clinical trials.

Goal 2: Support care and empower consumers

We will support quality TSC care, and empower consumers in diverse communities to access it.

1. Identify TSC Community: Double the number of people the TS Alliance serves to 16,000 while increasing diversity and lifespan considerations. 
2. TSC Clinics: Ensure individuals with TSC and families/caregivers have access to TSC clinics and services. 
3. Community Alliances: Enhance community alliance structure and support. 
4. Lifespan support: Support individuals during their lifespan through advocacy during the educational process, and transitioning them into adult living and independence.

Goal 3: Educate and mobilize public support

We will educate the public about those affected by TSC and the benefits of increased investment in TSC research for related disorders such as Autism, Epilepsy, and LAM, and mobilize them to join and support our programs.

1. TSC a Household Name: Bring public awareness to our message through branding to facilitate increased recognition of the TS Alliance brand in order to make TSC a household name.  
2. Broad Advocacy: Increase and broaden our advocacy for those affected by TSC with healthcare professionals, educators, consumers, media, pharmaceutical companies, policymakers and regulators.

Goal 4: Increase Investment

We will increase annual revenue from $4 million to $10 million by 2012 to invest in TSC research, outreach, services, and advocacy programs from both philanthropic and non-philanthropic sources.

1. Endowment: Coordinate with TS Endowment Fund Board to grow the endowment through planned giving.  
2. Technology: Create and implement a comprehensive technology plan that will assist in productivity, manageability and institute more targeted marketing. 
3. Corporate Advisory Board: Continue to build and develop a Corporate Advisory Board that will advise on strategic and overall business development plans as it relates to branding, marketing and philanthropic opportunities.  
4. TSC Research: Create an infrastructure of vital TS research opportunities to shop around to venture capitalist; opportunities that will fund vital projects, programs and research.  
5. Media Partners: Develop a media plan (through PSAs, relationships, etc.) that will increase national visibility across the country and assist in more grassroots marketing. 
6. Partnerships and Sponsorships: Develop a plan of action that will assist in identifying and soliciting national partnerships and sponsorships.

Goal 5: Build and strengthen organization

We will build organizational unity and capacity to strengthen the economic viability and growth of the TS Alliance in order to achieve our mission.

1. Resource Management: Build and strengthen the integrity of the organization’s fiscal health by improving infrastructure and operational efficiencies, staff and volunteer competencies, and management and governance capabilities while ensuring that the TS Alliance’s corporate reputation remains above reproach.  
2. Organizational Structure: Promote sound governance and management capabilities with a Board and committee structure that best serves constituents; a staff size and structure with professional support resources; and a thriving Community Alliance structure with appropriate collaboration. 
3. Human Resource Management: Nurture unity, inclusiveness and capacity for growth through principled management to ensure that the TS Alliance is effective and culturally competent with skilled volunteers and staff who reflect the diverse communities that the TS Alliance strives to serve.
