Last Chance to Advocate for FY 20111 Funding for the Tuberous Sclerosis Complex Research Program (TSCRP)
September 2010: On September 13, Congress will return from its summer recess, and will immediately get back to work on the spending bills for the fiscal year 2011 budget. Sometime during the week of September 13, the House Appropriations Committee may "mark up" the Defense Appropriations Act for fiscal year 2011. At this stage in the process, the House will include a proposed funding level for the Tuberous Sclerosis Complex Research Program (TSCRP) at the Department of Defense. The Senate may also begin consideration of its version of the Defense Appropriations Act.
These next two weeks will be our last chance to weigh in on the importance of funding the TSCRP. Please contact your members of Congress today and urge them to support our request of $15 million for the TSCRP!
Both House and Senate Appropriations Committees are under unprecedented pressure to cut significant amounts of funding from the President's proposed fiscal year 2011 budget. In this fiscal climate, it is more critical than ever to have a strong level of support for program funding requests such as the TSCRP. On March 22, Representatives Loretta Sanchez (D-CA) and Gary Miller (R-CA) - along with 88 other House members - sent a letter to the House Appropriations Committee requesting $15 million in fiscal year 2011 for the TSCRP. A similar letter was sent by Senators Sherrod Brown (D-OH) and Mike Crapo (R-ID) - along with 20 other Senators - to the Senate Appropriations Committee. This strong level of support will be critical in determining the ultimate outcome in funding for the TSCRP!
